Big Bite! Northern Food Festival at Marquee Mall

The Big Bite! festival officially opened today at the Marquee Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga. This is much-awaited gastronomical feast in the country as it brings the best of the northern flavors.

Now on its third year, Big Bite! features one hundred concessionaires offering unique items and delicacies from Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and Cordillera Administrative Region in one place.

Merchants from Region I, Region II, Region III and the Cordillera Administrative Region showcases unique, local homegrown food products and food concepts such as coffee, jam, spices, condiments, and native delicacies. It’s a culinary showdown of the most mouth-watering heritage cuisines from Northern Luzon such as the Ilocos empanada, bagnet, pastillas and longganisa. And guests are treated to cooking demos and live entertainment as they take part in the festive atmosphere.

Big Bite's food market highlights three of the best-loved northern flavors in a grand sisig cookout in a “Sisig Festival”, an ode to the quintessential Kapampangan dish. This year features three popular sisig variations from Pangasinan, Ilocos as well as the traditional Kapampangan recipe. Chef Jackie dela Cruz whipped up the Ilocano version called “dinakdakan” while Chef Danilo Maramba cooked the Pangasinan version, replacing pork with bangus, a popular catch from the region. Chef Sau del Rosario prepared the traditional Kapampangan pork sisig.

Guests also get to see their favorite kitchen masters cook up a storm onstage. Pampanga Chef Gene Gonzales and Chef Sau del Rosario together with Lifestyle Network’s Chef Next Door, Chef Jonas Ng were there to share culinary expertise. Big Bite! Northern Food Festival also serves the venue for the three-day cook-off between top culinary schools from Pampanga.

Uke Box Caffé

Are you looking for a a new chill place, for a night of great music over good food and drinks? Well, Uke Box Caffé has it all covered!

Uke Box Caffé is the only ukulele-themed cafe in Metro Manila that offers free workshops. Even without prior musical knowledge, you can get on the groove playing lots of tunes, and it won't be a struggle. You get started by simply signing up for their Sunday workshop, where they teach you to strum, tune, and shape basic chords.

Ukulele is an easy instrument to learn. You can rent one, buy one in-store or bring your own and jam along with your friends. You'll be playing a song in no time! You'll have fun just by learning the basics.

Uke Box Caffé also houses wooden decks filled with soft cushions for a homey, private dining experience. It's like your perfect spot when you just want to unwind, go on a private chat while having a cup of your favorite coffee. It is interesting how they managed to put up those bunk beds given the limited space they had.

Their selfie coffee experience is something you should try out! Select your type of drink and then Uke Box Caffé will serve it with your face printed on your coffee foam!

Non-coffee drinkers may opt for Strawberry Iced Tea, Matcha Green Tea, Strawberry Banana, and Dark Chocolate.

Other than the hot and cold coffee blends, I find that they are particularly strong on sandwiches. My top picks were: Chicken Pocket (P 180), Hawaiian Spam plus the Monte Cristo Sandwich (P 250).

While a bit pricey, everyone loves the Monte Cristo Sandwich. This French Toast is something Uke Box Caffé does really well. I had seconds of this sandwich. I love how its crunchy exterior mixes well with a rich, creamy and custardy interior! Slices of cheese and ham gives the right balance of sweetness in every bite.

For pasta, I recommend the Carbonara. Though the serving size is a bit smaller, it tasted perfect. They know how to do it really well.

Uke Box Caffé's unique setting and food options make it a great place to head out to. I will definitely  bring in my family for the experience. Check it out soon!

Healthier Choices when Cooking Your Own Meals At Home

Dining in a restaurant does satisfy our craving for the finer things in life. People go to restaurants when they find it hard to carve out the time to prepare meals at home. It is sometimes even more delicious than cooking your own food at home. But while eating out can be an enjoyable activity and is convenient for most people, it quickly racks up costs and can sometimes be a nutritional pitfall especially when supersized portions of high-calorie meals at restaurants come into play.

Meal portions at restaurants often go out of control. As a consequence of finishing the entire restaurant serving portions, a person overeats. And consuming countless calories when eating high-calorie meals makes dining out unhealthy.

Grabbing take-out food on your way home adversely affects your health. A regular diet of restaurant foods not only expands your waistline, it leads to greater incidences of obesity, high-cholesterol, and heart disease.

If you have children in the home, like I do, opting for healthy food choices is the way to go. Eating at home would mean less consumption of fried foods, unhealthy trans fats and soda. Home cooking gives my child a jumpstart on good nutrition practices that will last her a lifetime.

Reasons why I prefer Home Cooking

I can transform leftovers into healthy, affordable lunches.

Home cooking allows me to control the sodium and sugar in meals I prepare. I get to select foods that lead to good health. Choosing home-cooked meals over fastfood would mean that my family is eating healthier and consuming fewer calories.

I can follow the suggested serving sizes and control the portions I dish out.

I spend less on home-cooked meals and this does away with the budget dents I incur from eating out. By cutting my food budget dramatically, I get to save money for a trip to a favorite destination.

My Lock and Lock Cherry II Enamel Cookware allows me to prepare healthy meals using lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of fresh vegetables. It is my perfect kitchen companion as this lightweight, versatile pot goes quickly from stove top, induction to oven.

Now, I'm #LockedInLove! I get to celebrate friends and family over home-cooked food that is tasty and healthy at a shorter cooking time.

A #CherryChristmas with Piolo Pascual

Christmas spirit now bounds in the Philippines and Cherry Mobile is back to fulfill the Christmas wishes of Overseas Filipino Workers to be reunited with their loved ones this season through its #CherryChristmas promo. The latest campaign recognizes our unsung heroes' hard work and sacrifices. And Christmas comes early to OFWs as Cherry Mobile flies the lucky winners home for free this holiday season.

Cherry Mobile's newest brand ambassador, Piolo Pascual, announced the good news during a press briefing held at the New World Hotel last October 9th.

“For our OFWs, the happiest time of the year is also sometimes the loneliest. I saw firsthand while I travel abroad how much Filipinos yearn for their home and families. There really is no place like home. For those who live in the Philippines, we are happy to give and receive gifts, but deep inside, there’s no greater joy than being with family. I’m proud to be part of a brand that supports, connects, and encourages the Filipino family to be together,” shares Piolo Pascual.

The #CherryChristmas promo invites participants to upload a short video of themselves sharing why they would like their loved ones home for Christmas. Entries can be uploaded through the #CherryChristmas app on the official Cherry Mobile Facebook page.

This promotion is open to all Filipino Facebook users who have family members working abroad. Visit www.cherrymobile.com.ph and www.facebook.com/cherrymobile to know more on mechanics of the #CherryChristmas promo.
