Sky Range Cafe

There is an exclusive place where shooting enthusiasts can actually shoot guns, play and dine in!   The Sky Range Cafe is a sprawling 20-lane, state-of-the-art, indoor shooting range  witb an impressive collection of  guns and lethal weapons.

This shooting range  has an air-conditioning system that filters all the smoke and dust from the ammunition.  This exclusive luxury hub for gun enthusiasts is  re-enforced with level 5 bulletproof glass that makes it very safe  to watch from the viewing windows if you want to feel closer where the action is.

Moreover, their theme extends to the delicious menu that they offer.

For appetizers, we got to try out the Ruffled Fat Buckshots. These were chicharon bulaklak served on  onion rings  with vinegar dip and tartar sauce.  I liked the chicharon bulaklak but I found the onion rings   breading too thick.

Combat Arroz Caldo was similar to Hainanese chicken rice porridge with quail eggs.  It had  spring onions . I like the subtle taste of ginger and how it complements the chicken.

Salpicao Nachos was straight up with sauces and beef bits.  The Longganisa Pasta was a huge hit as well.

Their Double Action Chorizo Burger is a juicy burger with delicious gooey cheese sandwiched between the soft buns.

Their Kare-Kare Rib Eye Steak is deconstructed main dish with sauteed vegetables plus steamed rice on the side. The beef chunks came in tender, juicy and flavorful.

Roast Beef Sandwich is something I would recommend next to Kare-Kare. The thick slabs of beef were so good!  And do try out their coffee line up by Yardstick when you go visit soon.

PhilamLife supports Education for the Underserved Communities

Barangay Burabod is a secluded area located at the foot of Mt. Isarog in Calabanga, Camarines Sur. Because of its remoteness and distance from the urban areas of the municipality, students in Barangay Burabod had to hike 5 kilometers to be able to reach the nearest school.

Upon visiting the area a few years ago, former Camarines Sur Representative and now Vice President Leni Robredo had a chance to speak with Burabod’s Barangay Captain Roberto C. Cabaltera. They looked for possible ways to bring education closer to students and put up a secondary school in the location. After enlisting the support of various LGUs and government agencies, Severo High School in Burabod – named after Eduardo A. Severo, who generously donated a one-hectare lot – finally opened its doors to 123 enrollees last June 2014.

As fate would have it, Typhoon Glenda hit the Philippines that same year, and devastated areas of Camarines Sur. Severo High School was severely damaged, leaving its teachers, students and entire community in dire need to repair its classrooms with the hope to make it far sturdier than the original construction.

Not known to the people of Brgy. Burabod, events were already unfolding to address their need. Philam Foundation was coordinating with the Department of Education in identifying areas that were most in need of new classrooms under its “Philam Paaralan” program. Its goal was to build classrooms in calamity-stricken and under-served communities. When Robredo explained the situation of Severo High School to Philam Foundation President Max Ventura, construction plans began to unfold.

Apart from rehabilitation work that needed to be done, Philam Foundation successfully built two new Philam Paaralan classrooms for Severo Highschool, in partnership with the Happy Hearts Fund.

“The act of physically building an educational structure is such a metaphor for deeper, more profound things,” explained Ventura. “Ultimately, we are building the knowledge of our youth and securing their future. Philam Foundation is thankful to all our partners and everyone who made it possible,” he added.

The new Philam Paaralan classrooms can accommodate approximately 100 students. “We were intentional in the way we designed these classrooms, taking into consideration the risk of calamities,” Ventura pointed out. “These classrooms are typhoon-proof and built using the latest steel frame technology. Students of Severo High school can now concentrate on their lessons and academic work with no need to worry when the rains come.”

“Aside from having typhoon-resilient structures, our classrooms are fully-furnished with water sanitation and hygiene facilities that will promote cleanliness and healthy living among students,” Ventura concluded.

Established in 1997 to commemorate Philam Life's 50th Golden Anniversary, Philam Foundation, Inc. is the social development arm of the Philam Group of Companies. It is a non-stock, non-profit organization committed to serve the less privileged in society. To learn more about the Philam Foundation, visit

Fresh New Take at Breakfast by Italianni's

Italianni's do believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and so it recently launched an exciting menu to add to its extensive breakfast line-up.

Italianni's has everyone  in the family covered from greens, breads,  rice dish  and desserts! And I got to try all seven dishes in their Bonifacio High Street branch last week, courtesy of ZomatoPH

Mela Verde Salad - A refreshing mix of romaine lettuce, arugula, mandarin orange, watermelon, peach, dried cranberries tossed in honey balsamic dressing topped with green apple slices. The fruity combination and taste was superb!
P 245 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,   P 320 Regular

Pollo e L'uovo Salad - Romaine lettuce, arugula, paprika with ham and chicken are tossed in balsamic Caesar dressing. It comes with a runny poached egg and toast. This was a low down for for as it lacked flavor.
P 245 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,   P 320 Regular

Avocado e L'uovo Salad - Romaine lettuce, arugula, avocado, goat cheese, crispy fried panchetta and parmesan cheese are tossed in balsamic Caesar dressing topped with soft boiled egg. I so love goat cheese and avocados combination that make this salad extra creamy. This is the best among the 3 salad varieties I tasted that day!
P 265 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,   P 340 Regular

Pollo Zenzero - Savory chicken teriyaki with tapa rice and sunny side up egg. It tasted similar to a Chinese-style adobo that is sweet and salty in flavor.
P 295 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,   P 380 Regular

Velluto Rosso Pancake - is a three-layered red velvet button pancakes topped with whipped cream, blueberries and powdered sugar with mixed fruits on the side. Other than its rich velvet color, it would pass off as ordinary pancakes. but subtle flavor. I was looking for the buttery taste and creaminess of a real red velvet cake.
P 295 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,   P380 Regular

French Toast ala Suzette - French toast topped with mixed fruits with 2 pcs. bacon and sunny side up egg.
P 245 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,  P 320 Regular

French Toast Cannella de Crema - Cinnamon French toast drizzled with creme cheese with 2 pcs. bacon and sunny side up egg. The hefty servings of bacon gives this dish a boost of flavor
P 245 Bistro Premiere Exclusive,  P 320 Regular

PEZ Candy Philippines holds a meet up

Last August 4,  2016, PEZ Candy Philippines held its first ever meet up with media and candy patrons at the EcoPlaza Makati City.

In the short program that followed, guests were oriented on PEZ Candy's history, and on PEZ Candy best selling collections such as the PEZ Star Trek Limited Edition, STAR WARS Pez Dispensers (Pack of 12) and Pez Sponge Bob Square Pants Assorment. It is said that one isn't famous unless a PEZ dispenser immortalizes his character!

The first Pez candies were round and there mint dispensers, known as "regulars," were similar in shape to a cigarette lighter. The adult breath mints were invented by Oscar Uxa and marketed as an alternative to smoking.

Pez was first marketed as a compressed peppermint sweet in Vienna, Austria in 1927 by a candy maker named Eduard Haas III. Austrian inventor and businessman Eduard Haas III came up with the idea for PEZ in 1927. Haas came from a wealthy family of doctors and retailers, and as an anti-smoking advocate, he decided the small mints could help those trying to kick cigarettes. The 30-year-old Haas hired a chemist to perfect a cold-press process that would quickly and cheaply compress peppermint oil and sugar into peppermints.

The mints were named for the German spelling of peppermint—"pfefferminz"—nabbing three letters to make PEZ.The word PEZ was created using the first, middle and last letter in the German word for peppermint PfeffErminZ. Haas created the peppermints using family owned baking powders, and decided to serve the mints in small, hand-size tins, similar to the modern Altoids tins. Haas Food Manufacturing Corporation of Vienna was the first to sell Pez products.

In 1955, the Pez company placed heads on the dispensers and marketed them for children.

Pez candy has come in a wide variety of flavors over the years, including assorted fruits, sours, cola and sugarfree. PEZ has that chalky texture similar to a drink mix if it were compressed into a tablet. The candy color comes in a very pale brown with darker brown speckles in it. Most PEZ colors are fairly muted.

All in all, I think the chocolate isn’t going to satisfy the hardcore chocoholic, but it makes a nice change from the other options (cola, various fruit flavors, and Sourz) currently available.

The fun afternoon activitu ended with fun games and mock auction of several PEZ dispensers.
