Potts Point Café opens at MOA

Potts Point Café is definitely one of those places that I know I can always have a satisfying meal at anytime of the day.

I was invited at the grand opening of Potts Point Café Bayside MOA last April 11th and I got to experience the Australian organic offerings the café has to offer.

The degustion started with a soup serving. I find Cream of Organic Cauliflower Soup with Truffle Foam   (P 180) to be bland. The cauliflower made it a little sweeter with a hint of truffle coming from its truffle foam.

I like the Shakshuka (organic eggs poached in tomato sauce at P 265). This Middle Eastern, egg-rich dish laden with organic pork sausage and served with toasted baguette slices was very satisfying.

Thai Chopped Salad With Grilled Chicken, Crispy Wonton and Pomelo (P 245) is a simple salad that I found to be nice. The crunchy pomelo pulp goes well with the crispy-fried wonton and Thai flavorings.

Australian Grass-fed All Beef Burger with Australian Cheddar, Pickled Beets, Olive Oil Aioli and House-made Brioche Bun with Baked Sweet Potato Wedges (with Egg) looks like an ordinary burger but the fact that it is all organic makes it extra special! The superb patty comes from grass-fed cattle and the cheese is no less than the Australian Cheddar. The baked sweet potato wedges compliment the juicy taste of the burger. You should add this to your must-try list!

The Roast Australian Lamb with Bone Marrow Rice and Demiglace (P 595) is another must-try dish at Potts Point Café. The tender meat has a rich flavor that makes it worth waiting for.
Salmon Linguine with Capers in Dill Cream Sauce (P 365) is a terrific, healthy dish that you must also try.

The Melange of Seafood Provencale with Brown Rice Risotto (P 395) is Potts Point Café's flavorful take on seafood. This a plateful of goodness you shouldn't miss out on.
For desserts, I had English Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Ice cream (P 210)plus Strawberry, Kiwi and Mango Trifle with Light Vanilla Custard and Cookie Crumble (P 185)

The Delano coffee and other hot/cold coffee concoctions are also available from this Aussie café. Do check them out soon.

Mati’s Meat and Breads offers food that delights the palate

Last week, I was back at Mati’s Meat and Breads for another degustation adventure (see previous post here). This time, owner Chef Paul Macasaet was there to guide my Zomato foodie friends and I on our culinary experience.

Managed by the Melo’s Group of Restaurants, Mati’s Meat and Breads was established by Caron Santiago-Macasaet, daughter of Melo’s founder Melo Santiago, and her husband Chef Paul Macasaet. Our host shared that Mati's takes it name after the Macasaet's youngest son, Mateo. Moreover, some of their favorite dishes on the menu ears were named after Mati and his co-siblings---Bianca and Tali.

Here is what we had for appetizers and my top three favorites:
Balot Aligue (P 190.00) is Balut (duck embryo) sauteed in an equally cholesterol-laden Aligue (crab fat). It was a challenge to non-balut eaters like myself but I couldn't resist trying a mouthful and I wasn't disappointed! I love Mati's take on this fusion Filipino food!

Truffled Bone Marrow (P 385.00) is another sinful dish that cardio disease patients would miss out on. The bone marrow on baguette slices was like nothing I have ever had! I super love the way the finely-chopped, luxury mushrooms blends with the rich taste and fatty flavors of the bone marrow!

It was simply irresistable. It was served with little spoons to scrape out the marrow. I was pleasantly surprised with how much of the soft mixture was in there! I say that passing up on the Truffled Bone Marrow is a capital offense!

Rockefeller Oysters (P 380.00) was excellent beyond measure!

Pasta and Pizza

Tali’s Gamberetti(P 350.00) This pizza has all the goodness of shrimps, mozzarella cheese and served in a very thin crust.

Bia’s Four Cheese(P 365.00) is a classic version of one of the most wonderful combinations of bread and cheese imaginable. It was bursting with flavor.

Truffle Pasta (P 398.00)

Salad Options

Camille’s spinach and arugula bean salad (P 195.00) is a mix of arugula, tomato cherries, beans, cheese, and diced ripe mangoes, sprinkled with sweet chili sauce.

Vince’s Chicken and Arugula Salad (P 225.00) has greens topped with chicken slices and sweet caramelized onions. Balsamic vinaigrette gives it a tangy, savory taste.

Main Dish

Mati's 6oz Angus Burger (P 385.00) comes as a seasoned, perfectly-grilled patty. Its meat is not too lean and not too fatty either.

Mama’s Buffalo Wings (Php 240) is something kids would love. The deep-fried chicken wings glazed comes in a sweet and spicy sauce.

300g Certified Angus Rib Eye Steak (P 1,400.00) is pan-seared prime beef that is probable the best meat in the country.

We were served Brownie a la mode (P 220.00) and Chocolate Eclair Cake (P 200.00).

I'm not really into sweets but I could take these slices away and huddle in a corner in a sugar-filled bliss. Mati’s hefty chunk of impressive desserts is something you should try out.

The overall food experience was good.  Visit Mati's  soon.

Hawk Girl tops the DC Super Heroes Cosplay Competition at SM City Bicutan

Earlier today, cosplayers gathered at the DC Comics Super Heroes Cosplay Competition at SM City Bicutan. 13 contestants came dressed up like their favorite super hero and/or heroine.

It is amazing how much work the participants have put into their costumes! There are so many characters to choose from, so each one has the potential to look awesome and stand out.

The runway performances were remarkable! Contestants acted in a skit, danced and presented their character's demeanor in an amazing cosplay. Some used their props well in striking a pose. Confidence shows if cosplayers feel really great about what the are doing. And this makes a difference.

Winners were chosen based on the following criteria:

Creativity – 40%
Accuracy – 30%
Stage Performance – 20%
Audience Impact – 10%

Hawk Girl bested them all. Wonder Woman came in as a close second while Black Canary bagged the 3rd place. These three winners qualify for the next round happening on April 18, in which they get a chance to snag the following prizes:

First prize - P 20,000.00
