The Glass House showcased the newest Windows 8.1 tablets such as the Lenovo MIXX2 and Acer W4. The new Asus T100, otherwise known as the ‘Transformer Book,’ also took center change as the device that is both a tablet and a netbook. Other new devices such as the Nokia Lumia 1020 were also displayed to complement the Glass House.

The Almario sister tandem was commission to bring Window Glass House to life as Microsoft believes that the Almario sisters are capable of taking up the challenge of converging aesthetics and functionality and integrating technology with their design philosophy.

“We are proud to take on the challenge of being able to incorporate technology with aesthetics through Microsoft’s Glass House and to see how devices, apps, and other technologies transform the interior space,” said Ivy Almario. “We are glad that Microsoft has given us the opportunity to explore endless possibilities with technology especially with Windows devices.”

“Glass House reflects our philosophy that technology greatly affects the way people live,” said Cynthia Almario. “This says so much about how Filipino consumers can use technology such as the exciting Windows 8.1 apps and devices to accomplish things in a more fun and more productive way.”

Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith graced the Glass House event and she enjoyed her tour of the House.

“Technology plays a big role in my life and in the things that I love. I use devices and apps all the time both for work and play, allowing me to shift from the role of an actress to a student,” said Jasmine Curtis – Smith. “Seeing the Glass House has allowed me to further understand the impact that technology plays in everyday living. With Windows 8.1, and its array of apps, there is something that fits my passion and that of my family and friends.”

Gerry’s Grill opens Eastwood City Walk 2

Since it first opened in February 1997,  Gerry’s Grill remains to be a well-loved place to dine in among the Filipinos as it offers a menu packed with scrumptious food ranging from Grilled Seafood, Filipino and Asian favorites and tastefully prepared beermates to fit any occasion.

Crispy Pata, Inihaw na Pusit (Grilled Calamares), Pork Sisig, Beef Kare-Kare, Beef Kaldereta, Nilagang Bulalo, and Inihaw na Manok (Grilled Chicken) are among its best sellers. Though the original concept of the business was putting up a place where people could unwind with a drink or two, Gerry's Grill founder Gerry Apolinario envisioned his restaurant catering to families as they liked the wide array of foodbeing served on tops of Gerry's Grill clean and fun tropical motiff.

Now, Gerry's Grill opened its 57th branch at Eastwood City Walk 2 to be able to serve its high quality but reasonably-priced food among Eastwood customers.

I was among those invited to its newest expansion last November 25th. The occasion started with the Eastwood branch blessing followed by a Ribbon Cutting ceremony.

Guests were treated to partake of sumptouos buffet as random games and activities well held throughout the night.

Gerry's Grill Pork Barbecue sticks remains to be a top favorite
I am glad to be invited as Gerry’s Grill continues to expand its restaurant network here and abroad. Maka-Pinoy! Maka-Gerry's!
Congratulations to Mr. Gerry Apolinario, chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director of Prime Pacific Grill, Inc. (PPGI), operator of Gerry’s Grill.

Sounding off AOM (Acute Otitis Media)

You’ll be surprise to know that some children having difficulty in learning might actually be suffering from hearing problems. Some of the common causes of hearing loss are accumulated earwax, intake of certain medications, excessive noise exposure, old age and ear infection or in some rare occurences Otitis Media.

Acute Otitis Media (Latin) is caused by inflammation of the middle ear. It is also referred to as middle ear infection. It occurs in the area between the tympanic membrane and the inner ear, including a duct known as the eustachian tube. It is one of the two categories of ear inflammation that underlies what is commonly called an earache, the other being otitis externa.

The onset of AOM complications necessitates medical and surgical interventions that result in substantial economic burden for the family. If left untreated, this painful disease can lead to hearing loss, or in some cases serious complications like facial nerve paralysis, meningitis and a brain abscess which makes it necessary for primary care physicians to properly diagnose and treat AOM.

Three out of 4 children worldwide will suffer from Otitis Media before they reach the age of 3. AOM is the leading cause of ailments amongst Filipino children as it ranks as the 8th leading cause of ailments leading to hearing loss, delayed speech and other sequelae such as impaired mental development that affects the child’s development, academic performance, social interaction and general health.

Although alarming, deafness or hearing impairment is potentially preventable. Protection against AOM (Acute Otitis Media) can be achieved through vaccination thanks to the help of technology and medical research. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has developed a vaccine against AOM and hence prevent needless suffering and developmental delays among the kids. Pediatric infectious disease experts of the Philippines like Dr. Lulu Bravo of the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination and Dr. Sally Gatchalian, who is also the Medical Director for Vaccines of GlaxoSmithKline Philippines lauds GSK for its commitment in fighting child Accute Otitis Media and for continuously researching ways to prevent the disease.

To celebrate Deaf Awareness Week this year, a Medical Mission in Bgy. Dona Imelda, Quezon City was held last November 20, 2013 to empower the deaf community and help raise awareness on hearing impairment. This collaborative effort of Better Hearing Philippines, St. Lukes Medical Center, UST McAudio Department in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline Philippines was participated in by parents, educators, service providers, hearing and hearing-disable individuals. Deaf Awareness Week pays tribute to countless individuals who endeavor to have access to education to enable them to become productive members of their community despite their hearing impairments.

Part of the advocacy in promoting preventive and treatment measures means addressing the hearing problem. “Protecting children through breastfeeding, adequate nutrition, frequent hand washing, avoidance of tobacco smoke and vaccination can go a long way towards ensuring that your child hears the worlds through clear ears,” said Pediatric Otorhinolaryngologist, Dr. Gretchen Navarro-Locsin.
