555 Fried Sardines holds Barangay Cooking Showdown

555 Fried Sardines recently held a cooking showdown in chosen Barangays from Pampanga, Pangasinan and Quezon. The Fried ng Barangay Cooking Showdown organized by Century Pacific Food Inc. and 88ville Productions, encourages each participant to “Make their Barangay Proud”.

Filipinos are known to cook from the heart which shows why we love sharing meals with family as well as friends and 555 Fried sardines was able to highlight this culture through the Fried ng Barangay Cooking Showdown. Participants featured their entries using 555 Fried Sardines as main ingredient in vying for the top spots per leg.

Contenders were encouraged to come up with dishes that are not just nutritional but delicious as well using 555 Fried sardines variants such as Tausi, Hot and Spicy, Bistek, and Escabeche. Samples of the product were tasted as they enjoyed the event through various games and raffles.

From the hundreds of entries submitted, Top 10 entries were chosen to participate in the actual demo which was furthered down to the Top 5 per Town who received the honors.

Inspiration is the Key

Ms. Elsa Dela Cruz, Grand Winner from Brgy. Buenlag, CalasiaoPangasinantook influence from Filipinos’s love for noodles, thus her winning entry Egg noodles with 555 Fried Sardines.

Mr. Larry Quinto, Grand winner from Brgy. Sindalan, San Fernando City shares that he draws his inspiration in creating his winning entry---555 Fried Sardines Lumpiang Sariwa from his family. Serving healthy food to his loved ones is his top most priority.

Maricel Quezada took the top place for the Quezon leg with Veggie Spicy Cordon Bleu Sardines drawn from her family’s love for vegetables.

555 Fried ng Barangay Cooking Showdown plans to visit other towns in the months to come. Do join in by coming up with your own sardine recipes and make your own creative fusion using 555 Fried sardines. Your recipe might be the next highlight.

51Talk pays tribute to teachers via #51TalkTeacherStory contest

In my younger years, I was lucky to have teachers as source of inspiration and positive influence. Aside from striving to give students a quality educational experience, some of these educators touched me deeply. I hold teachers in high regard for contributing to my social and emotional development.

The #51TalkTeacherStory contest encouraged e-Educators to share their experiences as an online teacher and it drew 250 entries from all over the Philippines. 51Talk chose the top 3 entries based on uniqueness, inspirational appeal, and over-all impact.

Winning the contest at 1st place is Teacher Moyee, who helped her student overcome his nervousness. She started talking to him about his interests and other topics that he’s comfortable with to ease him into conversing in English. After a month of lessons and newfound confidence, her student moved to Australia to pursue a master’s degree.

Coming in 2nd place is Teacher Lilydale, who found her most rewarding job as a single mother and an online English educator. Working from home gave Teacher Lilydale the best of both worlds by being able to spend time with her son. Teaching English online not only gave her a fulfilling job, but also granted her the chance to always be present for her son and take care of him.

The 3rd place winner is Teacher Amorlove from Cebu, who managed to balance her time as a persevering Architecture student and a passionate teacher through 51Talk. Being a student herself, she understands her students’ passion for learning. This always inspires to put her heart in every teaching session.

In the same event, 51Talk welcomed back the multi-awarded power spiker, Michele Gumabao, as its brand ambassador.

When she joined 51Talk, Michele also conducted online English classes. She spent time interacting with the students, teaching them the language, and learning more about their culture. She also shared with them her enthusiasm for teaching and volleyball. Her dynamic lifestyle as an athlete, health and wellness advocate, entrepreneur and inspirational speaker motivates many young people to do more at their age-- to teach, learn, and earn.

Through her stint in online English teaching, Michele understands that witnessing the eagerness and determination of students to learn motivates many Filipino e-Educators today.

According to Michelle, “e-Educators are hardworking individuals who give their lives in helping others succeed. Every day, they inspire me to become a better player and coach. I salute them for all their efforts in making a positive change in the lives of their students”.

Quezon City celebrates its 75 Diamond Jubillee Anniversary

The popular city in the National Capitol Region named after the second President of the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon, is celebrating its 75th cityhood this month of October 2015. Quezon City was then the capital of the Philippines from 1948 to 1976.

Since then, Quezon City has grown to be a shopping/lifestyle destination as well as entertainment capital, sinceit houses several media outfits that include ABS-CBN, GMA 7, UNTV, Ch. 13, Ch 9, Ch 4 and TV5.

To mark the 75th anniversary, the QC government prepared activities that pay tribute to the monumental figures and events that served as its foundation. QC is rich with heritage. Its most famous landmark, the Quezon Memorial Circle, holds the Quezon Memorial Shrine, a 66-meter mausoleum that houses the remains of President Manuel Quezon and his wife. The Quezon Heritage House and the Urban Farming project of Joy Belmonte is also located inside the the Quezon Memorial Shrine.

Other notable QC landmarks are the Tandang Sora Shrine, Sto Domingo Church and the Santuario de San Pedro Bautista Church.

The month-long  October festivities include city-wide job fairs, fun run, Senior Citizens' Program, Sports Exhibition by the PSC, Skateboard Competition, Volleyball Tournament, Martsa ng Musiko, plus medical missions. There will be parades, concerts, dances, food festivals to highlight 75 years of cityhood.

Fine wines and gourmet meals featured at Savour Australia! Food and Wine Pairings

Australia’s food festivals are the most sought after event in the world. Australia’s abundant produce and rich variety of livestock and vegetables, makes it the best destination for food and wine.

Last October 1, the Australian Embassy Manila, in partnership with New World Makati Hotel and the Victorian Government, invited us to the media preview of the Savour Australia! Food and Wine Pairings. The Glasshouse of New World Hotel hosted an exclusive food and wine event to showcase the best of Australian wines and cheese variety, featuring culinary treats curated by guest Chef Tim Hollands and Executive Chef Robert Davis.

It was a great way to get a first taste of what today’s Australian wines are all about. The spotlight is on Victoria. Specially-created dinner menus made from the finest Australian red meat were served paired with exceptional Australian wines, bringing elegance and culinary perfection to our dining experience.

Chef Tim Hollands created a selection of fresh antipasto platters from Dairy Australia's cheese selections. He presented two perfect cheeseboards that provided generous proportion gourmet cheeses various dried fruits, crusty bread and nuts! The set up was a spectacular grazing table for guests to nibble at!

Cheesemongers like me got to taste rare and boutique cheeses that even the most discerning gourmand may not have tried! The selection included jindi triple cream, jindi double brie, jindi strong blue, ashgrove aged cheddar, ashgrove rubicon, ashgrove double gloucester plus ashgrove lavender.

Chef Robert Davis, on the other hand, prepared roasted, mouth-watering dishes from Gippsland Region of Victoria's grass-fed beef---premium ox cube roll, premium ox short ribs, premium tomahawk and premium oyster blade.

There were also roasted vegetables, baked potatoes, yorkshire pudding, and pastries to complement our meal.

Savour Australia is indeed a wine mingler! Special thanks to New World Hotel for putting together a mouth-watering Aussie-inspired menu.
