VP Candidate Leni Robredo on MMK

Every six years, the Filipino voters are called upon to choose a president and vice president to lead the government. And Camarines Sur Third District Representative Atty. Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo is running for the Vice President post under the Liberal Party of the Philippines.

My first encounter with Leni Robredo was when she graces the 117th Independence Day program at the Aguinaldo Shrine last year.

The second highest government rank requires a candidate to perform well under pressure, and to support a team that can function under stress. How will she react under stress?

What experience does she have that gives us confidence that she'll deliver what she promises?

Find out more on widow of the late Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jessie Manalastas Robredo this Saturday, 8:30PM at Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) drama show as the episode features a deeper look into the life of Leni Robredo.

Leni is portrayed by actress Dimples Romana, while actor Marvin Agustin plays the late interior secretary Jesse Robredo.

Protect Laking Amazing kids from the inside

Every mom like myself wants the best for the kids. Hence, I ensure that my child gets protected as she accumulates stars along her journey.

There are a lot of ways to protect children, and one of the best ways to properly do so is to start from the inside. Our choice of foods has a major impact on the health of our family. And making healthy eating choices supports our children in all aspects of their life.

Here are the things I learned from the recent "Nido Growing Up Milk Bloggers Kick Off Event" hosted by Bettina Carlos:

Getting kids to eat a colorful diet for Optimal Nutrition

Kids need to eat fruits and vegetables to stay healthy. Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals that benefit children in many ways. Eating different colors gives their bodies a variety of vitamins and nutrients. Vitamins and nutrients help kids grow and can help keep them from getting sick. These nutrient-dense foods also build up their immune system, prevent the risk of obesity, and promote healthy bowel patterns.

Teaching kids happens by example. Children will model their parent's eating habits and so moms should include a rainbow of colored foods in their family's diet plan to ensure kids get a variety of those nutrients and phytochemicals. Including a variety of colors equal health. The more colors that were eaten, the better overall health is. Avoid foods high in refined carbohydrates and high-calorie snacks with less nutrition. Starches, fats, and sweets are devoid of the vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals that are so abundant in plant foods.

Getting kids to eat their way to a Healthy Gut

We only have one stomach and gut health is at the forefront of health concerns. The ideal balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut forms the foundation for good health. The gut flora dictates a person's health because health and disease are usually born inside our digestive system. When the stomach system is thrown off balance, it leaves our children weak and vulnerable.

New emerging studies show that micro biomes are good for gut health as it supports systemic health and digestive wellness. It is important to maintain the right balance of microflora to keep your digestive system working efficiently. That is where probiotics come into the picture.

Probiotic-rich foods support the immune system and digestive system. Probiotics help move food through your gut. Probiotics are the building blocks for your gut lining. They bring the good bacteria into balance and starve bad bacteria from thriving. And foods that contain probiotic cultures are the best way to eat your way to a healthy gut. While naturally found in your body, probiotics can be found in some foods, beverages, and dietary supplements. These show up in fermented foods like yoghurt, which have the unique aility to ease digestive discomfort.

PNP forges LBC partnership for road safety and anti-criminality education

Innovation can lend itself to a nation’s capacity building, as in the case of the LBC, the Philippines' market leader in payments, remittance, courier products, mail, parcels, and cargo logistics.

A recent partnership between the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) and LBC is meant to address the alarming rise of traffic, crime and accidents in Metro Manila—creating a strategicand integrated approach to road safety and efficiency.

“With our fleet of 900 motorcycles and 600 vans, it would really help us if all our drivers are informed about the rules of the road and their rights as motorists,” says Gerard Payaoan, LBC Vice President for Global Systems Distribution and Delivery. “That’s why we are so glad with this partnership with the Highway Patrol Group.”

For its part, LBC agreed to provide PNP-HPG with real-time information on all forms of criminal activity that their drivers may encounter while on the road. Drivers are also asked to be part of the HPG Rider Intelligence Network (RIN) so they can be partners in stopping crime on the road, like carnapping and highway robbery.

“This assistance that LBC is giving us is truly instrumental not only for us in the PNP Highway Patrol Group but also to our stakeholders: the members of the community,” says PCSupt. Arnold Gunnacao, PNP-HPG Director.

LBC has also agreed to adopt one of PNP-HPG’s training rooms in the agency’s Center for Road Safety and Security, and supply it with necessary equipment that will be utilized in conducting programmed and unprogrammed courses.

“Our part is to support the PNP-HPG in its effort to educate the public about the importance of road safety, and this is our contribution. With this, we hope that we can see better and safer roads for everyone,” concludes Payaoan.
