The internet of things have become so intertwined in our daily lives that cellphones and gadgets have become a necessity. My daughter loves to play games and watch video clips and make her own YouTube entries.
While the internet provides a good source of entertainment and learning for the youth in these modern times, I feel the need to limit sites my daughter goes to and check if its online content is appropriate for her age.
In today’s online world, inappropriate content may still slip through despite the parental security nets we set. This is where Kid safety apps like what Discovery Kids app come in handy.
With it in place, you will feel safe to let your kids watch everything inside the app. And knowing that your child is safe online is a big thing.
It is a good thing that Discovery Kids mobile subscription service for kids has finally made its debut in the Philippines last August 18, 2018 in a media event held at Manila House. Mombloggers and kids had fun with the different activity stations set up for the event.
Child celebrity Scarlet Snow Belo came in with her parents. Scarlet had made some videos for the Discovery Kids app.
What is Discovery Kids?
In partnership with local services provider PLDT and its mobile operator Smart Communications. Discovery Kids app combines guaranteed age appropriate digital content platform designed to spark curiosity, reibforce education and provide high source of entertainment for kids across multiple devices.
It offers unlimited access to over a thousand activities which include shows, videos, games and digital books made especially
for children aged 2-7 years old.
The app is designed in such a way that young kids can easily use and navigate the whole app on their own. The big buttons, the icons and characters makes it easy for young kids to understand and navigate.
Discovery Kids app focuses on 4 main sections
Home: Home button gives an overview of all that the app has to offer. Favorite shows, games and books are shown here. On the bottom of the screen, you'll find a row of characters. These are shortcuts to all available content on that character. Very handy if your little one is obsessed with Peppa Pig or Thomas the Train and only wants to watch those.
Shows and Programmes: The videos are grouped in different categories like 'Favorites', 'Funny', 'Explore', 'Cooking' and more, making it easy to find their favorite programmes. Among the well-loved shows, there is Peppa Pig, My Little Pony, Insectibles, Oddbods, Angry Birds Toon, and even local ones like ABS-CBN's children programme TeamYey!
Kids will love the Cupcake Wars: Kids, Meet the Penguins, Animal Planet, How they do It: Kids edition, and Guess what They're Making, from their immense content library.
Games: Games available in the app are grouped in categories like 'Racing', 'Puzzle', 'Music', or 'Action' to go straight to the games of preference. In Wild Kratts, kids learn everything about animals while playing the fun game.
Books: The digital books available in this segment are divided in themes like Bedtime stories, Funny stories, or Adventure books. Younger children have the option to just listen to the stories, while early readers can read on their own, and browse through its extensive digital library. Subscribers are free t download books to keep them occupied while on the road or traveling.
Subscribers can also download content for offline viewing. The Discovery Kids app is available for download now and offers a free 30-day trial at a subscription rate of P129 per month after the trial period.
Soon, PLDT Home is set to unveil its limited edition Telpad custom-built for Discovery Kids, inclusive of a monthly subscription. In addition, Smart customers will then be able to charge their Discovery Kids app subscription worth P 129 per month to their prepaid load or postpaid bill.
