As Philippine Elections 2016 draws near, politicians and aspiring public officials are up on the race for top positions in the country. Those running for office and their political parties have set out their platforms and positions on issues that appeal to their audience.
Given the huge number of candidates aspiring for public office, how does the electorate choose a candidate who represents their interests and opinions? TV5 recognizes the need of every voter to be well-informed in order for him to form his own opinion and make the right decisions.
TV5 aims to Engage, Encourage and Empower The Filipino Voter through its #BilangPilipino elections coverage campaign. It seeks to provide ready information on the policies and platforms of the different candidates. It promises unparalleled engagement with Filipino voters via data-driven content pushed over broadcast, digital, mobile and social plaatforms. The more informed the voting population is, the better educated political choices we make and the higher voting participation is.
At the press launch, TV5 gave its audience a glimpse into the comedy satire called “B.A.Y.A.W. for President". This series of episodes on political satire will highlight the country's current electoral landscape. By exposing illegal or unethical practices to the public, media watchdogs can protect the electorate from incompetent or corrupt political officials. Through BAYAW, TV5 hopes to promote information that will help voters in electing the right candidates.
"Bilang means a number of things and 'Bilang Pilipino' signals three thing about our coverage," News5 Head Luchi Cruz Valdes explained. "First, it speaks to our content: It will be heavy not just with facts, but with numbers. Bilang commits us to data-driven content so we can assure our audience of reliable information and insights. Second, Bilang Pilipino speaks of our mission: In an election, every vote, every voter, every Filipino counts. Finally, Bilang Pilipino is a call to action ... As Filipinos, we are called to be responsible, to take these elections seriously, to think beyond the elections for the betterment of our nation. 'Bilang Pilipino' carries this promise: We will deliver not only as professional journalists, but as proud citizens of a hopeful Philippines."
With social media now and TV programs helping Filipino masses on deciding who to vote, I hope a really deserving candidate will win the election. It's great to learn about each of them rather than only knowing them by their famous names.
ReplyDeleteThis election related programs can be of good help to the voting public but I guess even with tons of theses programs, election in the Philippines will still be ugly.
