Pampering Treat at Freyja Day and Nail Spa

Getting pampered is one of those things I seldom get so I never pass up when opportunity presents itself. I’m sure everyone would love spa treatment the same way I do. Who doesn't love pampering session?

Freyja Day and Nail Spa treats its guests like gods and goddesses with its variety of relaxing and beautifying spa services. It also offers excellent nail care. Its nail salon and day spa combination plus a relaxing atmosphere and its would definitely make you come back to try out more of its delightful spa services.

I was a bit skeptical of how good the massage is and I was proven wrong. It was quite different from most traditional massages. You can feel as stress melts away from your body. The full body massage was really good and this feeling lasts well into the hours that follow.

You can ask the masseuse for harder or softer handling, depending on your preference. I like mine a little hard. I thought the pressure was really good, maybe a little hard in certain areas. My lady therapist did an amazing job working out all the tension in my upper back.

The second half of the body treatment included a stone massage. The therapist worked well on my legs and thighs with gentle rubbing using the warm stones. The favorite part of my body massage were the hot stones!

I got every part of my body massaged, including my scalp. I felt so much better when it was finally done. The experience was so damn good!

After the massage, we got manicure and pedicure services. It took me a while to choose which one I wanted since their collection of nail polish is impressive! I couldn’t make up my mind because I wanted to try them all! After a long thought, I settled for gold tone.

After cleaning my nails, the beauty technician applied a gel top coat on the gold color I have chosen. I was told that gel top coats makes nail polishes last twice longer than regular polishes.

Try out their services and you'll be amazed on what they have to offer!

Jessica Sanchez promotes her single “Lead Me Home”

As part of her charity mission, the “American Idol” sensation Jessica Sanchez appeared in a press conference at the Sofitel Hotel to promote her latest single, “Lead Me Home”.
She partners with Starkey Hearing Foundation to help assist indigent Filipinos with hearing loss to acquire hearing aids. Jessica related that being able to give the gift of hearing to deaf people from General Santos City, Lipa City and Batangas City had been such a wonderful experience for her. She made a that she would use her fame to be part of a charity to help the less fortunate when she was just starting out as a singer and she would like to take on such opportunities as her advocacy.

“I would be happy to do anything that I can to give back to my people,” she said. To add, the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda will benefits from proceeds of her recent online concert and sales of “Lead Me Home”.

The soaring ballad “Lead Me Home” is one of the 39 tracks of the all-star compilation album, “Songs for the Philippines”. Part of the album sales will go to the Philippine Red Cross as part of its efforts to helped rehabilitate the survivors of the devastating typhoon.

Jessica was overjoyed learning that her rendition of the Philippine National Anthem at the recent Pacquiao-Rios fight in Macau brought a lot of joy to her fellow Filipinos, including the typhoon survivors in Tacloban City who saw the fight live for free.

“It was crazy actually because Manny asked me to sing it on Twitter from out of nowhere. And I felt so honored. I probably had about two to three days to learn the song. It was hard but I didn’t want to disappoint. But I’m happy that everybody is okay with the way I sang it, and I’m glad I made you guys proud,” she exclaimed.

Although the “American Idol” sensation is slated to fly to the US this Tuesday, December 10, she promised that she will be back before the end of the month to welcome 2014 with a New Year’s show at Eastwood City in Libis, Quezon City.

Excited about her upcoming gig, Jessica said she will perform the “upbeat songs” in her debut album, “Me, You and the Music”, released last March by MCA Music. These include “Tonight”, her hit duet with Ne-Yo, “No One Compares” which features Latino-American singer-songwriter Prince Royce, and “Don’t Come Around”, which contains an interpolation of the 1985 rock single of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, “Don’t Come Around Here No More”.

Acclaimed "IloIlo" film opens in Philippine Cinema

“Ilo Ilo” tells about the inseparable bond between a 10-year-old Singaporean boy and his Filipina nanny while the boy’s parents struggle to weather the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

The Lim family hires domestic help Terry (Angeli Bayani), who hails from the Philippine province of Iloilo to keep an eye on him on their son, Jiale (Koh Jia Ler), a troublemaker at school.

The Singaporean couple is going through a rough patch as husband, Keng Teck Lim (Chen Tian Wen), has loses his sales executive job, but unable to tell anyone about his predicament. His pregnant wife, Hwee Leng (Yeo Yann Yann), still clings on her mentally-draining position in order to augment family income. The film focuses on Auntie Terry's relationship with each member of the family, despite cultural differences and the challenges of the period's financial crisis. Auntie Terry treated Chen like her own child with untiring generosity, and had shown kindness to her employers. Her love and persistence finally paid off when her ward finally changed his ways and became affectionate towards his nanny.

“Ilo Ilo” was inspired by the true story of Singaporean director Anthony Chen and the Filipina nanny who raised him. This film is Singapore's entry for the 68th Academy Awards to be held in March 2014.

Anthony Chen share, "I believe the universal experience of children growing up with maids is one of having a 'surrogate' mother, a friend and a confidant. What is intriguing and never brought to light is the emotional inter-relations created, nurtured, cherished, and yet brutally taken away when circumstances change."

"When I was much younger, my mother hired a Filipino maid to look after the children. Teresa was with us for a long 8 years until I was 12 years old. We called her Auntie Terry. When she left to return home, it was hard to bear, but we got used to her absence and somehow lost contact. The one thing that has stayed with me after all these years is the name of the place she was from, Iloilo, a province in the Philippines. That is how the title of the film came about." according to Chen.

"My experience is probably similar to many other kids in Singapore and in the region, where hardworking parents spend their days at work, leaving the young ones in the hands of a hired stranger. Not many films have been made on the subject of such maids, at least not in Singapore. And for those few ones, what the media portrays is usually of a negative kind – controversies of abuse concerning domestic helpers, where either the victims are the children they care for, or the maids become the victims of employers. What one forgets is that an entire generation of children has grown up in the hands of maids as both parents are working full-time in most families today."

Greenfield kicks off Art for Generations

Being able to nurture ideas into vibrant landscapes where people and lifestyles thrive in progress is a legacy that property developers can hand on to generations. Greenfield Development Corporation has this unwavering vision of land stewardship and legacy since it started in 1961.

“Right now, Greenfield District is home to a vast network of mixed-use commercial and retail buildings, open spaces, and residential communities,” shares Atty. Duane A.X. Santos, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Greenfield Development Corporation. “By emerging as a self-sustaining district—virtually like a city within a city—Greenfield District offers urban individuals a reenergized vibe by combining the principles of modern technology and urban sustainability.”

And to cultivate this vision, Greenfield District Corporation holds a two-day art fair this December 7 to 8, 2013 to celebrate a legacy of building innovative communities for the next generation.
“Art for Generations aims to bring the local art community and the public together in a celebration of creativity, traditions, and heritage through activities and exhibits that exude the joy and heritage of the Yuletide season,” shares Atty. Santos.  According to him,  the concept of the festivity draws inspiration from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Story” by celebrating stories from the past, the gifts of the present, and the possibilities of the future.

Staged in partnership with various local art galleries and creative labels, the outdoor art fair celebrating unique Filipino artistry—a first at the Greenfield District—aims to foster greater public appreciation for local contemporary art and craftsmanship through a variety of activities.

“The Filipino brand of art is a rich showcase of creativity and imagination,” says Santos. “With this event, we aim to help make the rich lessons of our past become the anchor of how we can shape the future of our communities.”

Visitors can enjoy a weekend of art exhibit featuring the masterpieces of prominent local artists, plus  outdoor art film screenings and insightful art appreciation talks that weave cultures, beliefs, and innovative thinking all together.

Award-winning art films such as “Colossal” by Whammy Alcazaren (Best Cinematography awardee at the 36th Gawad Urian), “Ruweda” by Hannah Espia (Cinemalaya 2012’s Audience Choice Award recipient), and many more will make the cool December breeze at Art Films in the Sky a memorable one.

Central Park visitors at the Greenfield District will also be serenaded by a string quartet and jazz band as they leisurely shop for art pieces and gifts at String and Jazz.

“Art and creativity has always been an integral element in all of our endeavors, just as how the land is the crown jewel of every Filipino family, from one generation to the next,” ends Santos. “Beyond being a pioneering art event, Art for Generations gives people a glimpse into the unique experience of being part of the Greenfield family—a community of creative people with an innovative vision. Through this, we hope to help enliven the season by reminding people of the heritage, legacy, and joy that Christmas brings.”
